Rock art includes
both petroglyphs - drawings
that are carved or scratched
on rock - and pictographs
- drawings made using pigments
and plant dyes to produce
a colored image in rock.
Many native
peoples have inhabited the
Moab area, and have produced
beautiful rock art. These
include the prehistoric Paleo-Indians,
Anasazi and Fremont Indians,
and more recently the Ute
Indians.
Several rock
art sites are easily accessible
when visiting Moab. Stop by
the Information Center, or
contact the Moab Chamber of
Commerce for directions and
further information.
When exploring
rock art, please do
not touch the images
because oil from your hands
can damage the art. Also,
please do not deface the rock
in any way, even if the site
has already been vandalized.
