Indeed, it
does rain and even snow in
Moab. Desert weather can be
highly tempermental - deceptively
sunny mornings can often give
way to stormy rainy afternoons.
Never park or
set up camp in a wash. It
may seem dry, but flash floods
can originate over 40 miles
away, and strike unexpectedly
during a beautiful sunny day.
Be sure to pack rain gear,
especially if you are planning
to camp, hike, or bike. If
you are headed to the La Sal
Loop, bring snow gear as well.
This road has an elevation
gain of about 4000 feet, and
you can expect to see several
inches of snow there, even
in late spring.
The most rain
falls in Moab in April and
October, but sudden storms
can hit anytime. Watch the
skies, and if dark clouds
loom, it is probably a good
idea to get back onto pavement!
